Frequently Asked Questions

About summer

1. What is your student to teacher ratio?

There will be four full-time staff members (a teacher and a teacher assistant, as well as a speech-language pathologist and a speech-language pathologist assistant) each week. We will close admission at 6 to 8 students per session. This low student to teacher ratio will permit us to provide students with personalized instruction.

2. Do you group students by age?

We create small groups based on ability level. Staff members instruct students in small groups, according to learning objectives and levels of instruction.

3. What is the age range for the program?

We admit students from 4 to 10 years old.

4. Can we sign up for all four weeks?

Yes, you may sign up for as many weeks as you would like. We are flexible! We understand that some students may attend their local school district's Extended School Year program in the morning and attend our program in the afternoon. Some children may attend our program in the morning and play with their neighborhood friends in the afternoon. You may wish to attend our program for Week #1 and a theater camp for the remainder of the summer. The choice is yours!

5. Will we receive a report as to how our child is doing?

We will screen all students, in the areas of decoding and articulation, prior to the start of the program to determine a lesson plan and appropriate groupings. You will receive a report at the end of the summer enrichment program.

We have a number of assessments to analyze decoding, encoding, fluency, comprehension, expressive language, receptive language, articulation, and social skills. Please message us if you are interested in a comprehensive assessment at an additional cost.

6. Are you hiring?

We are currently seeking an assistant level position.

7. Where will the program be located?

Our summer enrichment program is located at 601 King Street Alexandria, VA 22314 in the heart of Old Town. We have also opened a second location at Aldersgate Church, 1301 Collingwood Road Alexandria, VA 22308.

8. How is lunch and recess handled outside?

Our full-day students will participate in lunch and recess outside from noon to 1 PM. At our Old Town location, two staff members will safely walk all students 0.3 miles to the Tot Lot, which is located at 208 S. Royal Street Alexandria, VA 22314. The Tot Lot has picnic tables and a playground. There is a playground onsite for our Fort Hunt location.

9. Do you require a deposit?

Yes, a 50% deposit will be required at the time of registration. The other 50% of tuition will be charged the first day your child attends the program.
